Step Nine: The Finishing Touches

Now that your doll has been "born," it'll need some clothes. I like to get outfits that are soft and cuddly! For a 20-inch LaBaby (usually made into a 21-22" doll when reborn), the best size clothes are either newborn or 0-3 months. Since the doll has partial vinyl limbs, clothes with long pants and long sleeves work the best. The baby can also wear a newborn or size 1 diaper. You may want to take him or her shopping with you (however silly you may feel!) because it's sometimes hard to find clothes that are just the right fit. The neck is often too big for reborns, so keep an eye on that.

Also, there are fun accessories you can make or buy for your baby like name bracelets, hospital ID bracelets, blankets, toys, earrings, birth certificates and pacifiers.

I make my name bracelets by stringing the beads on clear elastic string, so the bracelet can stretch over the doll's hand and fit snugly. I tie it off to fit the doll. Then I thread a pretty ribbon through the holes and tie it in a bow on the doll's wrist. That way you get the look of a ribbon tie but the function of an elastic band.

The final and most important thing your baby needs is a name!
